Our minds are full of options, opportunities, obligations and information about more sustainable packaging options. Thanks to 6 speakers at our Seedlab Australia Sustainable Packaging Masterclass.

Our minds are full of options, opportunities, obligations and information about more sustainable packaging options. Thanks to 6 speakers at our Seedlab Australia Sustainable Packaging Masterclass.

Sara Mawhinney (Nix) of Kantar talked about global opportunities and trends, including the simplification of design as well as packaging (also love the concept of #JOMO – joy of missing out).

DAVID BAGGS Green Product Certification got a lot of people thinking from both a consumer and a professional point of view about recycling (including himself!).

Bryan McKay from Woolworths Group shared the inside knowledge about how Woolworths Supermarkets think about packaging, challenging businesses on the amount of packaging they choose, and also defining Woolworths’ view of what “compostable” means (home compostable).

Nathan Hall from Disruptive Packaging did a great job of putting himself in the shoes of a startup FMCG business, and provided a guide to packaging options, Plus a timely reminder to think about the supply chain before you think about the solution – simple stuff, but so often overlooked.

Jason Brown of ePac Flexible Packaging has been doing some great work with our Seedlab Tasmania businesses including Roz Madsen at House of Fudge and Emily Quintin at Tasty Little Things – check out his company for short print runs of pouches.

Finally, Chad McNamara of Multicolor Labels had some really valuable assets for our businesses to tap into for more environmentally friendly adhesives.

“Since getting into Woolworths with our plant-based meat alternatives is the goal, it was so good having someone actually from Woolworths there to talk you through exactly what Woolworths are doing and what their expectations will be from brands they stock” Amanda GossHerbiDoor

“It was reassuring to hear big business is getting on with the business of improving their offerings. Great vantage view of Woolworths suppliers’ compliance requirements. The information from recognised experts saves us hours of research” Tania Stacey at East Forged Pty Ltd.

“We are now looking at the possibility of having our deodorant tinplate tins returned to us for reuse! The depth and breadth of knowledge of the speakers was excellent and so relevant to us. Also the compostable washable labels have got us very interested and we certainly be following this up”. Samara of Kissing Chickens.

Rob Whyte from Hippie Food Co (kombucha featured in pic) also got excited about the washable labels & adhesives: “We’re a reuse business and this is potentially a game-changer”.

Thanks to all speakers for their insights, time and openness.
